Twists and turns in SAB league

Staff Writer, 16 May 2019

Drama has unfolded in the SAB League in Cape Town after points have been docked and the long standings changed  dramatically following the conclusion of disciplinary cases.

With two games to go (actually some teams have three games in the bag), Kuils River appears to be the biggest losers after the points deduction dropped them from 6th to the basement of the log standings.

And Young Pirates, who ended the weekend on top of the pile, find themselves second after Matroosfontein earned three more points to shoot to the top of the pile. Greenwood’s dreams of challenging for the title were also dealt with a major blow as they are now 12 points off the pace compared to the four-point difference they had after the weekend.

It is not clear what happened when which led to the points deduction, with a short statement from SAFA Cape Town this morning only stating: “Following the conclusion of the disciplinary cases of the clubs which paid late in terms of the SAB League

team agreement, please find attached the amended logs for your attention and records.”

This is a developing story, and please watch this space.
