So day two of the Bayhill Premier Cup kicked off after an interesting and promising first day, with young players doing their ultimate best to show off their unique attributes and skills at Erica Park.
And one player who definitely did that is the little dribbling wizard wearing jersey number 10, Luke Baartman of Cape Town Spurs – who could potentially have scored a contender for goal of the tournament in an intense game against JL Zwane

The game between was a hard-fought display of skill, and ended up in a one-all draw, when Zwanes’ Mpumelelo Mafuya pulled one back late in the second half to keep Group F evenly poised
But the highlight was definitely Baartman’s goal, which sent the crowd into overdrive.
“When I received the ball on the line I thought let me try to beat him and keep on going because before that I kept running at their right-back and in my mind I’m thinking let me try again and I got it right and in the end I just finished and scored the goal,” Baartman told Capeat6Sport when explaining how he scored such an amazing goal
He controlled the ball just after the halfway line, facing his opponent on the left touchline. Then he eliminated the right-back with ease on the outside and still managed to keep the ball in the field of play. After this he drove towards goal using his pace to bypass the next defender – and when he arrived in the small box he calmly slotted the ball in the bottom right hand corner with finesse. It was a classy finish indeed
And this in Baartman’s very first year in the Cup.

“It’s been an exciting tournament for me so far,” said the 16-year-old Spurs left winger. “All I want to do is do my best for the team.”
The Elsies River resident has come a long way since his early days at Riverside Rangers
“At the age of eight I was playing in a tournament for them and that is where I was scouted by Cape Town Spurs. So yes, I’ve been in the academy for about seven or eight years and my personal purpose for this tournament is to be the highest goal scorer

He doesn’t really have a role model as a footballer – rather, he has confidence in his own ability, and wants to find his own path. Only time will tell there that will lead
But in the meantime, the Bayhill Cup continues. So stay tuned for more action from one of the continent’s most prestigious tournaments.
