Amateur Cricket Activities Resume

The Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) welcomes the return of structured amateur cricket in the region, which gets underway this coming weekend, the association announced this week.

In a statement published on WPCA website, Cricket Services Manager Clinton du Preez expressed his delight as the season kicks-off after such a long delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Our last official ball was bowled in March 2020, and we are excited to return to structured amateur cricket participation, more positively we are looking forward to the return of spectators at our amateur events.”

The following programs will officially commence as of this coming weekend: Senior Men and Women Club Cricket, Boys and Girls Schools, RPC and Hubs, KFC Mini Cricket, Blind Cricket, Deaf Cricket, Coach Education and Provincial Academy Cricket.

 “We welcome back all our amateur cricket programs,” added WPCA CEO Michael Canterbury. “We want to thank our stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring all necessary measures are put in place at ground level, so all Covid-19 regulations are adhered to, and we hope that the season starts brightly and continues throughout without enforced interruptions. Good luck to all the cricketers for the season ahead and thank you in advance to all the committed administrators, scorers, umpires and ground staff for their time and energy to the game”.
